Levels Of Certification

Level 1

An individual certificated to level 1 has demonstrated competence to carry out NDT according to written instructions and under the supervision of level 2 or level 3 personnel.

Level 2

An individual certificated to level 2 has demonstrated competence to perform non-destructive testing according to established or recognised procedures

Level 3

An individual certificated to level 3 has demonstrated competence to perform and direct non-destructive testing operations for which he is certificated

Level 1

An individual certificated to level 1 has demonstrated competence to carry out NDT according to written instructions and under the supervision of level 2 or level 3 personnel. Within the scope of the competence defined on the certificate, level 1 personnel may be authorised by the employer to:

set up NDT equipment;
perform the tests;
report the results
record and classify the results of the tests in terms of written criteria

Level 2

An individual certificated to level 2 has demonstrated competence to perform non-destructive testing according to established or recognised procedures
Within the scope of the competence defined on the certificate, level 2 personnel may be authorised by the employer to

select the NDT technique for the testing method to be used;;
define the limitations of application of the testing method;
set up and verify equipment settings;
perform and supervise tests
interpret and evaluate results according to applicable standards, codes or specifications;
prepare written NDT instructions;
carry out and supervise all tasks at or below level 2;
provide guidance for personnel at or below level 2, and
organise and report the results of non-destructive tests

Level 3

An individual certificated to level 3 has demonstrated competence to perform and direct non-destructive testing operations for which he is certificated.
Within the scope of the competence defined on certificate, level 3, personnel may be authorised to:

assume full responsibility for a test facility or examination centre and staff;
establish and validate NDT instructions and procedures
interpret standards, codes, specifications and procedures;
designate the particular test methods, procedures and NDT instructions to be used;
carry out and supervise all level 1 and level 2 duties, and
provide guidance for NDT personnel at all levels.

Facilities available :

The machines were available as and when required.
The machine provided for A scan Ultrasonic testing (SIUI) is best in echo pattern produced for different types of reflectors which will give additional information for characterization of reflectors.
SIUI SYNC SCAN for PAUT and TOFD is best user friendly machine with good accuracy.
A good silence class room was provided.

Practice specimens:

But welded plates and pipes were available with artificial reflectors for practice.
They were provided for practice until I gain confidence on the pattern of evaluation and interpretation.
After the preparation of the reports for the practice specimen, our results were rechecked by the faculty and doubts was also cleared.

Study materials:

The study materials provided were knowledge oriented.
Hard copy of BS EN ISO standards were available always for ready reference.

Faculty:

The faculty have good practical knowledge too along with theoretical knowledge.
After every class doubts were cleared there and then.
